Sigma Guitars by Martin SEC-2000J
Sigma Guitars is a brand produced under license from C.F. Martin. Originally, Martin launched this series as an affordable line of guitars to counter the increasing imports from Japan and other countries. After Martin discontinued production in 2007, a German company acquired the brand rights and relaunched it with manufacturing based in China.
The model we've received this time is the SEC2000-J, an acoustic guitar in the 42 style. The manufacturing year is unknown, but it's likely from the early 1990s.
This is a popular high-spec model featuring top-tier appointments including torch inlay and rosewood veneer on the headstock, ebony fretboard with snowflake and cat's eye inlay, a spruce solid top with aging toner adding warmth, and rosewood plywood back and sides—a design that echoes the EC (Eric Clapton) model. The scale length is 628mm. It has no pickup and is designed as a pure acoustic instrument.
Since guitars manufactured in the 1990s formed the core of this brand, it's a rare brand that rarely appears in the used market these days. Moreover, while officially sanctioned by Martin, it's made in Japan—this would be a perfect match for enthusiasts. If you think 42s are too expensive, this will really appeal to you. When we actually played it, the sound was cohesive while retaining Martin-like qualities. This is a real find!!
